Family Huddle

This was painted en plein air in Sicamous B.C. standing at the edge of my brother and sister-in-law's home. They have so many flowers and interesting objects in their yard to choose from. So many people walking by told me how much they enjoyed "my" yard on their walks. Yes I did fess up to it not being mine. One fellow stopped his car to tell me his wife was painting as well on her back deck so I dropped by when I was done and met a new art friend,
how great is that!

This is a painting that just flowed. I loved the way it looked and felt through the whole painting process. I think it is one of my favourites of the year.

Happy Urban Space

"Happy Urban Space"
8" x 10" oil on canvas panel

I wish I could of painted this en plein aire (on location) but loved the sunny feel of it against a very dreary building background. The planter looked unkempt and wild growing but still bursting with colour.  "Grow where You are Planted" seemed like a metaphor for my art journey.

Splash Of Pink

"Splash Of Pink"
12" x 9" Oil on canvas
#20007617

The photo reference is from Teri Sanders that was shared on Facebook for other artists in the group to use (Thanks Teri). I went bolder with colours and really had fun with this one. I loved the little sprigs of baby's breath as a design element.

Dancing Shadows

I loved all the flowers that grew in random places in Mexico. They popped over the stucco fences seemingly warming in the sun. The shadows were forever changing in the slight breeze.

Where Poppies Bloom

"Where Poppies Bloom"
11" X 14"   Oil on canvas
#20001457

There were beautiful poppies beside the old rail beds that were turned into a cycle/walking route through Spain. I loved the contrast of the new blossoming flowers with the very old stone farm houses and buildings.

Tulip Festival - Calgary Sketch Club Painting Exchange

"Tulip Festival"
9" x 12"  Oil on canvas
#20007517
This painting was my celebration of spring. It always makes me happy to see tulips begin to open and show their brilliant colours. I took this painting to our Calgary Sketch Club awards and wind up party last Thursday. I sat beside Tami and we both commiserated on bringing a painting that we did not care for to our first wind up club party. At our party who ever wants to participate brings a painting and then a draw is done where the # you pull out corresponds to the painting you get. The choices were beautiful. Tami and I were sitting beside each other. I drew my number and it was Tami's beautiful painting then Tami drew a number and it was my painting, we had a good laugh over that.

Ruby Sunflowers

This painting is from a  photo taken by my friend Sue Bingham of sunflowers in her garden. I love the colouring in them as they reminded me of rubies, not the standard yellow/orange variety.
