Freedom Lies in Being Bold - #3 in Fifty's Fashion Series

"Freedom Lies In Being Bold" - Robert Frost
12" x 12" Acrylic on canvas with 1 1/2" painted sides
#20028218

This is the third painting in my "Fifty's Fashion" series depicting women living in the 1950 - 1960's. I love riding my bike and have rented bikes on several holidays in other countries and certainly enjoy the freedom it affords me. The freedom to go, see and explore for myself is what I thought these two women were experiencing.

This painting and 3 more from this series has been juried into the Federation of Canadian Artists, Calgary Chapter "Spring Into Art" show (see invite below).

First Rate Version - #2 in Fifty's Fashion Series

This is the second painting in my "Fifty's Fashion" series. The title comes from a quote by Judy Garland "Always be a first rate version of yourself, instead of a second rate version of someone else." This painting is of women out in the working world in the 1950 or 1960's. The new working clothes that were not uniforms and the new view and definition of  "working women".

The Best Fashion Show - #1 in Fifty's Fashion Series

"The best fashion show is definitely on the street. Always has been and always will be." - Bill Cunningham

This is the first painting I have done in my Fifty's Fashion Series. This series has been on my mind for quite a while but was still sorting out how I wanted to make it look. I was taking a break from oil painting landscapes so to really shake things up I dug out my acrylic paints and just decided to have fun and see where I went. My inspiration came from photos on free stock picture websites of real people documented in the 1950 - 1960's.

Bill's quote provided the perfect direction to go.

This painting has been juried into the Calgary Chapter Federation Of Canadian Artists show on March 3 in Calgary (see invite below, love to see you there).

Salmon Arm Wetlands

This setting is a beautiful and peaceful gem in Salmon Arm, B.C. Canada. It has a boardwalk following along the marsh that is used by walkers. I have painted this scene numerous times as it brings back the sounds of the birds, musty smell of the ground and general peaceful feeling.

I took this painting to get a critique from Doug because even though the cross water shape was in the photo reference I took, I did not like how you eye couldn't be drawn into the painting. The finished painting is below. I am so much happier with it.

Early Morning Mara View

"Early Morning Mara View"
16" x 20" Oil on canvas
#20002218

This is a view I never get tired of! Quite often in the early morning there is a bank of low clouds that forms just behind Sicamous. As I look over Mara Lake towards Revelstoke area I always run in to grab my camera and finally painted the scene. I was tempted to paint the dragon boat paddling across the water as this is when we are  usually out.
