Sicamous Public Beach plein air painting

This post was accidentally compositing in my "Draft" section of this blog so here is today's post:  This painting was purchased for a wonderful man as a thank you gift. It was important to buy local art to celebrate living in Sicamous B.C. Thank you Jeannie for your selection of this painting.

This is my painting in progress as I painted plein air (outdoors, on location) from the Sicamous, B.C. public beach. I found a nice shady spot under a huge tree. The park was not busy in the morning and other than early morning walkers and a few families, I was pretty much on my own. This is my painting in progress with the view of the public swim area and the boaters directional light post that caught my eye.

For some reason the actual painting looks neon on this computer, hopefully the colours are more realistic on yours!

View from Hyde Mountain Golf Course

This plein air painting was done on July 1 (Canada Day) from the parking lot of the Hyde Mountain Golf Course in Sicamous B.C.; a fitting tribute to a view Canadians and visitors enjoy. This is also the view of Mara Lake from the deck where you can enjoy a beverage and food. I preferred working quietly in the shade of a big cedar tree.

Canmore Plein Air Painting Day 3

The sky was clearer on the last day of plein air painting with Linda (seated) and Debbie at Middle Lake Kettle. My easel set up and painting in progress is on the left. Below is a view of what we are seeing, painting and our set ups.

My final painting. What a memorable and wonderful time I had (Thanks Debbie and Linda)!

Canmore Plein Air Painting Day 2

I was set up for my second morning of plein air painting in Canmore, Alberta across from a board walk in town. The sky was very smokey from forest fires and the light was continually changing. I am glad I put the mountain in the background as it was soon not visible. The light green in my painting were shadows in the water that disappeared with the smoke as well. I changed the water to the new non reflective colours that were more a view of the creek bottom.

This is the view of my afternoon painting in progress on my easel with Holly resting after another swim, Debbie to the right and Linda painting sitting in a chair. Again the smokey sky was still with us and was reflected in my finished painting below.

Canmore Alberta Plein Air Painting Day 1

I am painting on a bridge near Canmore Alberta. I had forgotten my backpack of art supplies so Debbie lent me what I needed until Linda brought my painting pack when she came. You can see Debbie's easel set up to my left. We found this perfect spot on a boardwalk bridge and happily painted and enjoyed Debbie's dog Holly, having fun in the water below.

"Three Sisters"

Debbie had the use of a friend's cabin in Canmore, Alberta and Linda and I joined Debbie for a plein air painting experience from Monday through Wednesday. Below is the view that we painted from the balcony of the Three Sisters mountain range. We left 4 of the paintings as a thank you gift for the wonderful stay.

Above is a photo of my easel and set up on the deck with the under painting almost completed. The top of my easel is almost pointing to the middle sister. The completed painting is below on the bottom left. It was painted completely with a palette knife.

These are the combined paintings of this view done on the deck. The great thing about 3 different artists are the viewpoints and how we each see the shapes and colours differently as well as our painting styles.

12 Paintings at Hyde Mountain Golf Course, Sicamous B.C.

I happily have 12 paintings at Hyde Mountain Golf Course in Sicamous, B.C. Shannon (my sister) helped me hang them all and we were free to put them up where we wanted. There is a charity golf tournament https://www.facebook.com/WeberFransonAnnualGolfClassic  there this weekend and the golf course was a buzz with upbeat activity, it sure looked like it was going to be fun.

Above is a picture Shannon took of 5 of my paintings. If you get a chance to stop by, they have a new menu and chef and everyone is raving about their meal! If you do not golf or have time for a great meal, it is worth the while to drive up and check out the view from the parking lot and deck!

"View From Hyde Mountain Golf Course Putting Green"

Hyde Mountain Golf Course is in Sicamous, B.C.This is my easel set up and painting well underway. I am standing at the edge of the practice putting green, soaking up the view of Mara Lake. It is hard to pare the painting down to fewer elements, there is so much beauty all around. There is a golf hole (#14) just below where I am painting with an even larger view of Mara Lake. Kim (manager) was more than accommodating and welcoming, so if you are in the area, consider painting or golfing here!

Below is the final painting. Excuse the shine as it is very sunny out and the painting is as fresh as can be.
