Calgary FCA - Doug Swinton Workshop

I painted ALL 10 of these 8"x10" paintings in a one day workshop with Doug Swinton. I have never painted on black canvas board before so that to was an adjustment. He put a photo up on a large screen and we had 20 minutes to paint it, then 10 minutes to clean our palettes and brushes and on to the next one. It was a heart pounding and very rewarding experience. We had scenery, animal (bison), floral and even a person to paint (really something for everyone and really pushing our usual comfort subject). Now to use what I have learned when I go plein air painting.....

Valentine's Day Gift

I was helping my Mom recover from back surgery in Kelowna over Valentine's Day so did not get to celebrate it with Gord. I came back Friday night to a wonderful surprise gift in my art studio,..brand new "drying/display" shelves that he had made for me. He even had my paintings all set up on it. Now I have more room for my easel beside my desk. He is also putting another shelf behind me on the opposite wall for more of my prolific painting.

This was my old drying rack that took up most of the room beside my desk so my easel space was squished.I had to have it away from the wall as there are shelves on the other side of it. It was a great rack but the size of the paintings on it were limited  Love, love, love my new shelves (and even better as a surprise)!

On The Drying Rack

I was looking at my drying rack the other day noticing the variety of subjects, sizes and colours that interest me. I have to shuffle them around as I now have a couple of self portraits to dry. Good thing this old magazine rack holds paintings on both sides.

Sicamous, B.C. Art Show and Sale

Sicamous Art Show and Sale Opening Reception is tonight and the show is on until from Friday June 28 until July 2. I was helping with the setting up and was completely enamored with all of the different art - paintings, jewelry and hand crafts. If you are in Sicamous B.C. for the long weekend, drop by the Red Barn and check out the art sale and show. There is no entrance fee and your creative side will thank you! I have these 3 paintings in the art show plus one more that I just realized I don't have a photograph of! I also have painted wine glasses, cards and original small paintings for sale.
