Early Morning Mist

This sweet little painting was inspired by the misty view on Mara Lake when I got up early to go dragon boat paddling. The lake was shimmering in places and still in others. With the smokey skies lifting a little, this view is a slice of heaven for me. If you are in Sicamous B.C.next summer, you will have to come out and give dragon boat paddling a try, breath taking in more ways than one! They welcome guests! This group of paddlers are so much fun, you get a good work out with a lot of laughing (join us after for coffee as well).

Plein Air Painting on a rainy day

This was my view from the beautiful covered deck at Hyde Mountain Golf Course in Sicamous B.C. Kim gave me free rein to paint where ever and however long I wanted to. I had no competition for the deck so hid under the canopy and happily painted. It was raining hard and the clouds were moving quickly, you can see the difference in the two pictures. By the time I got to the closest hill the colour green was finally emerging.

"Tunnel Vision"

"Tunnel Vision"

I took a photo when we were travelling through one of the tunnels in the Roger's Pass on the Transcanada Highway in B.C. The sun was shining and I loved all the colours and reflections. I am really happy with this abstracted view.

Elaine's View

 "Elaine's View"
Oil on gallery wrapped canvas painted on all edges  10" x 48"
#20024215 A Gift

This painting was based on a photo my cousin Elaine posted on Facebook. The photo was taken from her deck of the Kelowna bridge and the dancing colours in the sky and on Okanagan Lake. It was an absolutely stunning photo.

I have been in Kelowna looking after my Mom after her back surgery and painted this a little bit at a time while she slept. It was a pleasure to have the photo view while I was pretty much confined to the house. "Elaine's View" was still wet when I gifted it to her. This was an odd sized canvas for me but perfect for this painting.

"Another Spectacular Day"

"Another Spectacular Day"
Oil on board 8" x 10"

This painting is of a view towards Oyama, B.C. The shapes of the clouds and reflective colours were amazing but a little dull in real life so I added my own touches. I really enjoyed both the view and the experience of painting this one. Painting the Kelowna/Sicamous areas is near and dear to my heart.

"Mara Lake" plein air

I started my first plein air painting yesterday and realized that I was missing key items (palette etc.) so did the under painting only. Today I went back with all the pieces and finished my painting. It felt wonderful enjoying the beautiful view of Mara Lake and sunshine!

There are always critics and here is mine checking out the same view.

And the final painting....

Sicamous Evening

This painting is from a photo our son Curtis took in the Shuswap. It felt good to turn it into a colourful view of what we see in Sicamous. The moon over the hills and reflections on the lake are very beautiful especially in the early morning. I completed this a couple of weeks ago, but haven't had time to post it.

"Stormy Okanagan Lake" - Encaustic painting #2

"Stormy Okanagan Lake"
12" x 16" Encaustic painting on board

This is the second painting I did in the FCA Encaustic workshop with Ken Bourassa. I grew up in Kelowna B.C. and boating was a family pastime. The Okanagan Lake can become stormy very quickly and the waves get very large which made for a lot of fun playing in the water, but down right scary in the boat. We would try to get near the shore quickly as the waves would come over the front of the boat and up the windshield. The hills are very dry in the summer and I always loved the "dry & wet" contrast of that beautiful area.

The Summer Office

The Summer Office - a gift
Oil on Board 13" x 10 1/2"

This painting is of Bruce sitting in his boat answering emails and phone calls. The water was peaceful after water skiing with Bruce, Brent and Sterling (aka "big head boys") last summer. Sterling snapped this picture with his phone for me from his deck. I loved everything about the picture and wanted to capture the still water, the reflections, the slant of the boat, Bruce, Sterling's dock and Sicamous in the distance. It is wonderful painting a scene you know so well. It brings back the event, people, sights and sounds, heartwarming really.
