Purple Dance

Purple Dance
Plein Air Oil on canvas board 8" x 10"
$75 unframed      #20013915

Instead of a vista, this time I looked for something closer at hand. These flowers were in the arched gate entrance to the back yard in Sicamous. It felt strange setting up my easel in the driveway, but enjoyed the fact I didn't have to pack everything so far.

"Study with Green" and "Study with Orange``

An afternoon last spring was spent with mixing Sap Green into every colour put on this painting. The idea was to make the painting uniform using quite a few colours. Rick Berg brought in one of his paintings and we followed his direction to paint our own version.

The painting below was another interesting afternoon with artist Rick Berg. He brought in a painting that we looked at and then painted our own version. The interesting part of this study was that every colour used also had a touch of orange in it. This helped to keep the painting uniform with all the colours. I also found it a challenge to paint something back lit.

"Mara Lake" plein air

I started my first plein air painting yesterday and realized that I was missing key items (palette etc.) so did the under painting only. Today I went back with all the pieces and finished my painting. It felt wonderful enjoying the beautiful view of Mara Lake and sunshine!

There are always critics and here is mine checking out the same view.

And the final painting....

Rick Berg Workshop

Rick Berg brought in a painting that he had done with reds and oranges and variations of both. He had the class mix all their colours one at a time with Alizarin Crimson on a board or paper to see all the relationships and variety. It was quite eye opening. Rick did a short demo based on the finished painting and then we did our versions. Of course in a 3 hour time frame, most did not get theirs completed (mine included). Finally finished my version today.  I have never used Alizarin Crimson with so many colours before!

Below is Rick's under painting and then his original framed painting. It is quite a large painting and will be for sale at the 2014 Calgary Stampede.

Sol Sol! Caliente!

"Sol! Sol, Caliente!"
9" x 12" Framed Oil on canvas board
NFS (a gift)

I saw a photo of my sister-in-law Marg that my brother Ken had taken of Marg soaking up the beautiful sunsets that they enjoyed every evening while in Mexico. I could just feel the peacefulness radiating that I had to try to capture that in paint. The painting below is of my brother enjoying the sunsets as well from a picture Marg had taken. This set of paintings have already been given to them as gifts. I am hoping you can feel the warmth and enjoyment!
