I painted this after I enjoyed a gift of a hot air balloon ride. What interested me was how little I could see of the cows (basically just their backs) and how much the shadow described them. I loved the contrasting shapes.

I am really excited as this painting has been juried into the 11th Annual Juried Members Show at the Leighton Centre (just outside of Calgary). The show is called "Transcending Tradition" and will be on from April 26 through to May 30, 2013. The Public Opening Reception is on Saturday April 27th from 2pm - 4pm. Please enjoy the show if you are in the area, as well as a stroll on the grounds, the views are spectacular!                         www.leightoncentre.org

We just came back from a week in Palm Springs, a wonderful break from our very unsettled snowy and windy winter weather. Love peeling the layers of clothes off to live in summer clothes - day and evening!

I had painted this picture after the last time I was there. It was satisfying to stand at the same spot and enjoy the same view and another day hiking.

Merry Christmas with a Canadian winter scene

"Dancing Shadows"
Water colour on paper
6 1/2" x 10" double matted in a 8" x 15 1/2" metal frame

Merry Christmas everyone!
This painting was done from a photograph taken while out cross country skiing. The shadow looked like it was dancing as I was moving past the dead tree stump making it look very lively as well as striking my funny bone.

I hope celebrations are in the order today with friends, loved ones and celebrating relationships we have enjoyed throughout the year.

Merry Christmas and Season's Greetings to all!

We have snow on the ground, but a sunny warm winter day for Christmas Day. Looking forward to enjoying the day with friends and family...in and out.
Water colour, matted and framed to 16 x 20 - Sold

Above is a water colour picture of our majestic Rockies with their first blanket of snow.

Warm wishes for a healthy, prosperous, fun filled 2012! And to my fellow artist, may your brushes stay wet throughout the new year!

Hiking in Palm Springs

This is a painting of the hills behind Palm Springs. The rocks tower over you in several places as you wind on a worn path with scrub brush and flowers. We started our hike just past the tennis club and wound our way up. The view of the city was breath taking and you could see for miles!

Two water colour studies

These two water colour studies were done after watching a Sterling Edwards DVD. It was an interesting way to work and I like his teaching style. I will try some of my own photos next. I wasn't sure what I wanted to paint and in what media so the timing of this from the library was perfect. I like different things about each picture. I don't usually use Thalo colours, but it seemed to work in the first picture.
