Pretty in Pink - A pet portrait

"Pretty In Pink"
12" x 12" Oil on board
#20024315  $175 unframed

I had been wanting to do this female pet for a long time but wasn't sure how to make a basically white dog interesting. I decided to just have fun with it and add wild colours to my heart's content. I started with covering the whole board with Alizarin Crimson to get a nice pink background and worked from there. You can see some of the original colour in her face. I am really happy with this painting and feel I captured her without adding detail.

"Tunnel Vision"

"Tunnel Vision"
Oil on board 9" x 12"
$150
#20017315

I took a photo when we were travelling through one of the tunnels in the Roger's Pass on the Transcanada Highway in B.C. The sun was shining and I loved all the colours and reflections. I am really happy with this abstracted view.

Bridge View

"Bridge View"
Plein Air, Oil on board, 9" x 12"
$150 unframed
#20013315

While I was in Kelowna, I took an afternoon off and walked all along the downtown water's edge sidewalk past the yacht club to the other side of the bridge. I found a very quiet spot and happily painted. I reveled in the fact that I could be plein air painting (outdoor, on site) at the end of February! It was a very long walk carrying my palette, easel and supplies but I enjoyed walking with like-minded strangers until I felt inspired to stop and paint.

"Valentine's Rose"

"Valentine's Beauty"
Oil on 9" x 9" Gallery Wrapped canvas (no framing required)
$100
#20010315

I painted this beautiful rose from a Valentine's bouquet, a gift my friend Evelyn surprised me, my sister Shannon and Mom with. I was in Kelowna looking after my Mom after her back surgery as we were both staying at my sister's and brother-in-law's.

This is painted on gallery wrapped canvas with 1 1/2" painted sides (piece on the right hand side is one of the sides). I left this painting in Kelowna to dry.

Virtual Reality

"Virtual Reality"
Oil on board 12" x 9" framed
#20025215 A Gift

This is a surprise "Pay It Forward" gift for Reta. She had posted a photo of her two cats looking out the window and gave it the "Virtual Reality" title. I loved both the photo and title and thought it would be a purrrfect gift. What I like best about this painting was thinking of Reta and her happy pets while painting it, as well as the surprise of her receiving it.

Valentine's Day Gift

I was helping my Mom recover from back surgery in Kelowna over Valentine's Day so did not get to celebrate it with Gord. I came back Friday night to a wonderful surprise gift in my art studio,..brand new "drying/display" shelves that he had made for me. He even had my paintings all set up on it. Now I have more room for my easel beside my desk. He is also putting another shelf behind me on the opposite wall for more of my prolific painting.

This was my old drying rack that took up most of the room beside my desk so my easel space was squished.I had to have it away from the wall as there are shelves on the other side of it. It was a great rack but the size of the paintings on it were limited  Love, love, love my new shelves (and even better as a surprise)!

2015 Self Portrait 2

"2015 Self Portrait #2"
Oil on board 12" x 9"
#20027115

I painted this in Ingrid's class. We were to use all the colours on our palette and keep switching from warm to cool to warm etc. colours. I had set my mirror up on my easel above my canvas and hadn't noticed that my eyes were looking up at it until I stepped away to have a look as you normally do at art. I decided not to work on it at home to make it more realistic as I liked the variety of colours.

Elaine's View

 "Elaine's View"
Oil on gallery wrapped canvas painted on all edges  10" x 48"
#20024215 A Gift

This painting was based on a photo my cousin Elaine posted on Facebook. The photo was taken from her deck of the Kelowna bridge and the dancing colours in the sky and on Okanagan Lake. It was an absolutely stunning photo.

I have been in Kelowna looking after my Mom after her back surgery and painted this a little bit at a time while she slept. It was a pleasure to have the photo view while I was pretty much confined to the house. "Elaine's View" was still wet when I gifted it to her. This was an odd sized canvas for me but perfect for this painting.

2015 Self Portrait 1

"2015 Self Portrait 1"
Oil on board 12" x 12"
#20020115

I painted this portrait while looking in a mirror on my easel. Ingrid Christensen was trying to teach us to look at large shapes then smaller. We worked with a limited palette. I like this portrait as it was an unusual view of me concentrating and not animated as usual "selfie's"| are. I used a stylus and wrote the Shel Silverstein around my portrait. It is hard to see in this photo.

Shel Silverstein quote:
"Underneath my outside face
There's a face none can see
A little less smiley
A little less sure
But a whole lot more like me."

"Mooooving"

"Mooooving"
Oil on board 16" x 20"
$175 unframed
#20001215

I know this one looks odd, but I really like it. I received a hot air balloon ride as a gift a while back from my husband for my birthday and took many photos.  I loved the fact that the cows looked miniature compared to their shadow and were really only light and dark shapes. The shadows on the ground almost had more detail. I had painted one similar in water colour that sold in a Leighton Centre show.
