Dreama's Online class - Week 6 Bonus

Week 6 Bonus"Front Row Seat In France"
12" x 12" Oil on board
#20030617

This painting is my rendition of the last lesson (Week 6) in Dreama Tolle Perry's online art class. She has 2 bonus reference photos at the end and this is one of them. Access to the course is for a year so I may go through and paint them again, learn more and see if my style has evolved. I really enjoy the colours she uses and of course her photo resources. The course is more than just painting, she has tips, meditation videos with an outdoor scene and music, suggestions with "be kind to your artist self".

This painting combines what we have learnt from the 6 weekly modules...pots, walls, windows, shutters, flowers and greenery,

Dreama's Online class - Week 4 & 5

               Week 5  "Gathered In Love"

                                                                     #20027617B

These two paintings are my rendition of an online art class I took with Dreama Tolle Perry. The chair is Week 4 and the flower pot is Week 5. I am going to have to take better reference photos for myself as I love her photo references, all the composition work is done!

The painting of the chair was given to the Mount Royal Staff Association as one of their door prizes for their professional development day. I put Dreama's info on the back and that I had completed it in her workshop.

Dreama's Online class - Week 3

Week 3 "Sunflower Smiles"
12" x 12"
Oil on board     #20025617

This is the Week 3 painting of her course, again my rendition but her instruction and photo reference. I am now on the look out for blue mason jars (haven't found any yet).  I love her colours and style of painting. She introduced me to the beautiful "Caribbean Blue" colour that I would never of purchased (to expensive to try). It is the colour in the jar. It is definitely going to be in more of my paintings!

This painting will be a door prize at the Eagle Valley Brush and Palette 38th Annual Art Show from June 28 until July 4 at the Red Barn Arts Centre in Sicamous, B.C. Stop by, fill in an free entry form and meet some wonderful artists and  a variety of artwork.

Dreama's Online class - Week 2

I have signed up for an online workshop with Dreama Tolle Perry. Her first image and instruction (week 2) is of a photo she took of a cupcake. I watched the video instruction and painted along (first cupcake). Later I painted a second cupcake just using the photo reference. I enjoyed painting these cupcakes so much I am going to have to buy some fancy ones,  paint them and then enjoy eating them (at least that is my excuse!).

The second painting was done on canvas paper so it had a different textural feeling. I used the same colours and reference photo but the speed and how I felt while painting it was so different.

Memories Made

"Memories Made"
Oil on board,  23" x 29"
A framed gift for my sister Shannon
#20017317

I was suppose to go on a road trip last summer with my sister Shannon, cousin Dave, and Uncle Roy to visit our relatives in Manitoba. I pulled my back and could barely move never mind endure a very long car ride from British Columbia so I couldn't go at the last minute. My sister posted a photo of my Great Grandparent's home where my Dad and Uncle were born. It is in complete disarray now and has done it's time. Stories and memories were shared. A canvas print was gifted to my Uncles, Brian and Roy (they were surprised and happy to receive the gift).

Skinny Mara Lake View

I was a little befuddled on how I was going to paint this scene of Mara Lake, B.C. I was in Doug's class and after asking what I liked about the painting, it seemed like it was really about the rocks in front AND Sicamous, B.C. and mountains in the background. Essentially I had 2 subjects. After struggling with trying to "map" this on my canvas, Doug took it and disappeared, coming back with my canvas board cut in half!

Now, he said I could do the two subjects I was interested in. Honestly when you cover up the mountains and sky the rocks really aren't that interesting. Some days the paintings flow, other days are a challenge. I had never painted on such a small and irregular canvas board before but I really enjoyed it once I got going.

I painted the one above first and enjoyed it so much I decided to paint it again with the other half, hard to tell which one I like better.

Strutting

This was a very fun rooster painting to do. Apparently strutting his stuff was not very successful with the hens for this little guy, but with a little practice and time I am sure he will do fine.  Michelle Grant had some photos for sale, this reference was well worth the $2. Her photos were beautiful and varied.

Prairie Home 2

"Prairie Home 2"
12" x 9" Oil on board
#20110216

This painting was done from a photo taken by Doug Swinton. I loved the side way view of the house and felt the yellows and blues gave it a warm, well lived in feel.

Almost There

"Almost There"
Oil on board 16" x 20"
#20116015  $300 unframed

This scene interested me because it was so atmospheric. The boats weren't in my photo but certainly added a visual interest.
